After 2011, no new Ford Rangers could be produced in the United States of America There has barely been a major change produced to the Ranger in a long time. The pickup used to be one of the best selling light pickups on the market. Ford did not want to mess with a good thing. Next year, the Ranger as it is known may have its swan song and won’t be produced anymore. Ford will try to steer consumers toward the Ecoboost F150 with a V6.
The Ranger was king of its class
Throughout the 1990s, the Ranger was wildly popular. It was actually the best selling light pickup in North The United States. The truck was just about anything an individual could ask for, and so its success was deserved. The Ranger was priced less than a full size truck and got about 20 miles to the gallon. The Ranger was capable of just about any task on or off road, and it was reliable. That said, the market share went down after awhile. Nissan, Toyota, and other companies figured out that some individuals wanted crew cab seating in a light truck. Over 348,000 Ford Rangers were sold in 1999, according to Wikipedia. Sales were only 55,000 only 10 years later.
It had a great run
Ford had to come up with something else, or redesign the Ranger. But Ford went with another choice. There is a new Ranger like truck, according to USA Today, that will be sold overseas, however not in America. Instead, Ford is going to be pushing the new Ecoboost V-6 equipped F-150. However, the F-150 costs several thousand dollars more than the Ranger. Fleet sales have been the bulk of Ranger sales for the last few years running.
Facility to close
In addition to closing the book in the United States of America on a formerly very popular truck, Ford is also closing the plant that made it. The truck is within the firing line, and the plant goes with it. Ford will shutter the Ford facility in St. Paul, Minn. Ford attempted to revive the model with a crew cab but found it sold better under a different name. The Ranger technically lives on, but the new name it was given is the Explorer Sport Trac.
